Case History : Overcoming Sand Control Challenges in a Mature Offshore Field

Introduction 

NEXUS OFS was engaged to provide an engineering support for the well completion of a mature offshore well facing sand production challenges. The well was located in a brownfield environment. 

Background 

  • Location:  Confidential 
  • Field type: Offshore brownfield, with UCS between 200psi-400psi, sandstone reservoir  
  • Well type: Highly deviated oil producer 
  • Objective: Analyze failure mechanism and provide robust solution for sidetrack well 

Solution 

  • After detailed analysis of the formation sand, reservoir paraments and completion design, it was proposed to install sand control technique to minimize production of formation sand.  
  • Formation samples very deeply analyzed to ensure scalability across the field. 
  • Different techniques used to find out the optimal screen and gravel sizing. 

Results 

  • Sand production significantly reduced 
  • Oil production rate increased by 114%
